Steve Saunders got hooked on scouting as a youth, during the seven years he spent as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. As an adult, he is currently in his 38th year as Scoutmaster. During that time he has camped all over the eastern United States and in Europe; he was contingent leader for the 1977 National Jamboree and has attended every Jamboree since then; he has led contingents to Washington, D.C. (numerous times), to London, England, and to almost 50 summer camps. He is committed to a boy run troop, a safe program and fulfilling the promise of high adventure for all his scouts. His emphases are on learning and on having fun. This philosophy will produce his 60th Eagle Scout this year. He has earned numerous awards in Scouting including his Wood Badge Beads (Scouting’s
highest training recognition). A
Vietnam veteran, he is a retired
major from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and active on many boards and charitable organizations in the community.
